I love to look at the history and development of words over time.  Where do they first originate?  How do they move within various languages?  Do they change meaning over time?

The Online Etymology Dictionary does a wonderful job showing etymology of words and the connections between words.  This website is my first go-to place to begin my journey unraveling the secret layers of meaning hidden within.

This book was first published in London in 1937 as two volumes and republished in 1858 as one volume.  Colebrook was a judge in colonial India and became quite fascinated with Indian history and philosophy.  Upon his return to England, he wrote about what he learned and was one of the founders of the Royal Asiatic Society.

I came across this book because it is the first quote given in support of the definition for Akasha in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Another book from the early 1900s which described the missing years of the life of Jesus Christ.  This book came into more general awareness through the work of Edgar Cayce.  Mention by Cayce in his reading 1472-3 in 1937.  Has general references to the Akashic Records.

The World's Parliament of Religions, held in Chicago in 1893, introduced many US citizens to religious traditions beyond the scope of Christianity and particularly of the East.  Fourteen Lessons gained wide attention and is still used today by spiritual teachers looking to introduce students to the thoughts and practices of Hinduism.

Within its pages is a discussion of the Akashic Records, saying that for those that can opening the Akashic Records is like opening and reading from a book.

In the early 1900s, one of the great interests in the Akashic Records centered around the use of the Akashic Records as a picture or retelling of past history.  In this aspect several books have appeared that provide information obtained from the Akashic Records about the life of Jesus Christ.

The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ was brought into written form by the efforts of Levi Dowling during is lifetime.  Upon his death, his wife Eva published the book.  The story presented gives a different perspective than the story in the Christian Bible and attempts to explain various gaps by describing periods spent in study in the east including India.

From a historical perspective, this book provides an interesting view of the capabilities of the Akashic Records during the early part of the twentieth century.

Eckankar is a modern day spiritual movement begun through the work of it founder Paul Twitchell.  The emphasis is developing a direct relationship between God and your soul through the sound and light of Eck, the Divine Spirit.  This book is now titled The Eck-Vidya: the Ancient Science of Prophecy.  It was the word Akasa in the title that brought it to my attention.  While not specifically about the Akashic Records, this book does present the Eckankar perspective on working with and contacting Divine Spirit.
